Vacuum Glass: An Excellent Choice for Insulation

Optimize Your Home's Insulation with Vacuum Glass

A significant amount of heat in your home is lost through the windows, even if you have double glazing. What’s the solution? Vacuum glass. Although this option is still relatively unknown, it offers excellent insulation value. Here’s an explanation of why it’s worth considering.

High-Quality Glass Solutions for Your Home

If you currently have single glazing, you have only one layer of glass, which means there is no insulation. Only with two layers of glass, with air in between — known as the cavity — do you get insulation. This is called insulated glass, and it comes in different variations:

  • Double Glazing
This consists of two panes of glass with air between them. However, its insulating effect is limited.
  • Low-E Glass (High-performance Glass)
In this variant, one of the glass panes is coated, with insulating glass between the panes. This provides much better insulation.
  • Triple Glazing
Here, there are three panes of glass, also with coatings and gas in between. This type of window offers even better insulation but is also thicker.

In addition to these options, there is vacuum glass. This type of insulating glass consists of two panes of glass and offers insulation performance comparable to triple glazing, thanks to a super-insulating coating on one of the glass panes. Between the glass panes, there is a vacuum.

The Benefits of Vacuum Glass

Vacuum glass provides excellent insulation with minimal thickness. These windows are up to four times thinner and significantly lighter than triple glazing, while the visible area is also larger. They can also be easily installed in older homes. In terms of acoustics, this glass also performs very well. The lifespan of vacuum windows is around 25 years, without any loss of quality, unlike other window types. Additionally, they are 100% recyclable, making them a sustainable choice.

Consider the Costs
Keep in mind that vacuum glass is not cheap; you can expect to pay at least twice the price of triple glazing. This is one of the main reasons why vacuum glass is not yet widely used.
